How HOPE Can Help
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
-Psalms 34:18
Depression
- Have you been feeling irritable, anxious, sad, or on-edge
- Have you lost interest in things you used to enjoy?
- Have you noticed changes in your sleeping and eating patterns?
- Are you struggling with feelings of guilt or low self-esteem?
- Has it become hard to think clearly or make decisions?
- Are you having a hard time feeling motivated?
If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, you may be depressed. In our initial visits, we will do a thorough assessment to determine the scope and severity of the symptoms you are experiencing. We will then develop a treatment plan tailored to meet your specific needs.
Grief & Loss
Experiencing loss is difficult, whether it be through the death of a loved one or through a change in our circumstances such as divorce, retirement, poor health, or other unwelcome transitions in our lives. When dealing with loss, my role as a counselor is to come alongside you and walk with you in your grief journey. We will talk about the complicated combination of emotions you may be feeling…pain, anger, sadness, emptiness, or fear. We will also discuss the process of grief and the physical, emotional, and spiritual effects you are likely to experience. When you are ready, we will talk about the future, explore your hopes and fears, and help you find ways to meet the challenges that are before you.
Faith & Church Issues
Although our relationship with God and our experience in our church family are often uplifting aspects of our lives, these things can also become a source of doubt, mistrust, confusion, and pain. Trauma, tragic loss, unmet expectations, and burn-out are some common factors that can lead us to question God’s goodness or our place in the church.
When we find ourselves struggling with faith issues, Christian counseling provides a confidential and supportive place to talk through what we have experienced. Our ultimate goal will be to help you find healing, restoration and renewed hope.
Conflict with Others / Boundaries or Limit-Setting
Having conflict with those around us is a natural part of being human. Sometimes, however, these conflicts become so confusing or overwhelming that we begin to act in unhealthy or destructive ways. Learning how to set appropriate boundaries is one of the best ways to reduce the conflict in our lives.
Counseling for this particular concern will initially involve exploring and identifying the root causes of the conflict in your life, such as abandonment or abuse, a need to control others, low self-esteem, or lack of knowledge about how to respond to conflict in ways that are useful. After identifying the reasons for the conflict in your life, we will develop strategies to help you communicate clearly and assertively, bringing about less tension and more satisfaction in your relationships.
Anxiety, Fear or Worry
All of us go through periods of our lives when we experience fear, anxiety and worry. Some people find themselves battling anxiety and fears that are so constant and intense that they can no longer accomplish day-to-day tasks or enjoy their relationships.
If you feel your anxiety is too intense or you feel you are not handling normal amounts of anxiety in a healthy manner, counseling can be helpful to you.
I specialize in treating Panic Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, general anxiety and worry. Our primary goal will be to help you learn how to control your anxiety so that it no longer controls you!
